Our next interviewee for this series is with Director Service Delivery, Beth Morgan. Beth has been with Balance for over 6 months now and I have noticed she makes MANY lists!. She has a very quirky sense of humor, writes very fun blog posts and always finds a way to stay calm, even in the most frustrating situations!
- What’s on your desk right now?
2 monitors, 1 laptop, 1 iPad, 1 Droid, notebook, pencils, hot hands, bottle of water, my scientific calculator from 7th grade and a paper pointer that a phenomenal client gave me when I left to come to Balance.
- What's the best advice you ever got?
I have a few great words of advice from wonderful mentors over the years. Here are some favorites
- Don't speculate.
- Use "we" not "I".
- Don't ever under any circumstance use the blind copy feature of email.
- Always write your update queries as select queries first...in test.
- Bad news never gets better with time.
- "We work to support a family/life that makes us happy. We don't have a family/life to support a job."
- What do you do when you're not at work?
Laugh with my brilliant husband and remarkable children. Running in the early mornings, Cooking on the weekends, Spend too much time and money at Oakton Wine Shop, Watching endless videos of how to repot an orchid but never having the quiet time to try.
- Describe something you did at work that you are most proud of?
Working at the National Red Cross when Hurricane Katrina hit the US. Knowing that each day I was working on something that was helping to support what was on every American's mind at that very time was amazing. Also, running a project where we built a flight reservation system from scratch and having to learn how to calculate the payload for a flight
- How do you think Balance Interactive stands out from the crowd?
People - Smart, Funny, Brave and an incredible ability to provide big / creative / new ideas at a smaller scale.
